Today I got the opportunity to go to the praire museum here in Colby. It is a very modern and energy efficient building with an outstanding exhibition area. Outside there are old buildings that you can look at, you are even welcome to step inside. Since the county has only been populated for so many years the history is fairly new in the eyes of an european, but there has also been a lot of effort put in to preserve things and stories from past years. I think you understand the value of knowing things about your roots and history more in a "new" country.

This is the largest wooden barn in Kansas. It was moved from its original place (what an effort!). Now it is part of the exhibition and is also used for weddings.
A Swede was supervisor in the building of the barn. Olof Olson was his name. He came to America 1905 and this toolbox belonged to him.
This is a windmill that was used to pump water from the ground.
This is a house built of clay taken from the soil. The walls consist of pieces of soil stacked like a brick-wall. You see, there was no trees on the land when the pioneers first came. Scary huh?
This is me in the doll-exhibition I fell for the native american dolls. That is just something different, right?
Tonight will be the last night in the Mattix house. Tomorrow we are leaving for a wedding and we are staying at a friends house before I go to the next family on Sunday.
